Introduction

Let me begin with a discipleship question: how will you follow Jesus in prayer and dependence on God this week?

Main Points

In this lesson shaped by Calvary Boise's teaching on Specifically Thankful - Psalm 100:1-5 (11/29/2020), Christ invites us to receive truth with humility, practice repentance, and walk in faithful obedience.

Life in the Church

If you were here two weeks ago you heard of a lot of the open doors that we are experiencing as a church one. Of them is mexico and I want to use to today's time in god's word to do a couple of things one is to.

  • Really start looking forward to what we're going to celebrate as a church to remember each and every year around this time we remember.
  • That god is with us that he sent his son in the form of flesh to be a bond servant in the person of.
  • Jesus and we're going to use the month of december to really in a sense prepare our hearts and prepare our minds and refocus.
  • Our attention to the reality that god sent his one and only son and he's going to do it again and so we're going.

To spend some time in the word in psalm 100 uh preparing that and over the course of the next couple weeks uh you. Know we the last portion of the bible we went through was colossians that really that really came to an end right before our.

Prayer and Dependence

Are uh are not easy names to translate or say in spanish and so for me that worked out really well because my legal. Name on my license passport birth certificate is thomas that works out very well I'm now tomas in mexico so many of you I.

  • Hope will get to see that side of me as we as we pursue this open door as a church this is not something.
  • That I think is just for parker and andres and I to see but I really believe that as a church we're getting a.
  • New wave of the spirit's movement in our local church uh in the city that we live in and also in what god wants.
  • To do to raise up those lights in the darkness for our generation and so uh I have now the christening name of.

Tomas in mexico and parker does not translate very easily either it's kind of I don't know why andres you'll have to explain it. Later but parker does not really make sense in spanish so his new name and feel free to call him this is paco so.

Life in the Church

To start on time and we like it to end on time I apologize in advance we like our meetings to be nice and. Neat and orderly and we like them to end and sometimes we like our holidays to do that too so thanksgiving is something that.

  • We just celebrated on thursday and that day is a day to remember that when you're in that heart of thanksgiving it's supposed to.
  • Be slow we're not supposed to say thanks bye and yet what does our culture do thursday we say we're so thankful and then.
  • Friday we say and we want so much stuff still it's like what is going to be added to the shopping list what deals.
  • Can we find and we go so quick and what I loved about being in mexico is that it reminds me that's an area.

That god really wants his church to be set apart indifferent he wants us to break bread together and be together and he wants. Us to take time in his presence which was the whole service last week if you guys came last week then I'm going to.

Prayer and Dependence

Down there we realized very quickly that they run just a couple notches slower than us a little bit a little bit more waiting. A little bit more patience and that's hard for our culture we're like we're only here for such amount of time and we got.

  • To go and yet this picture really captures a lot of what our trip was about because we ate and then we would.
  • Pray and then we would talk and then we would laugh a little bit of dancing sometimes and then while we're doing all of.
  • Those things there's someone in the background preparing the next meal and then you do it all again and I realized it was really.
  • Good for us to embrace that because we're there in their culture and I and I thought you know we need to embrace.

That with what it means to really know god to really love god julio's message was not supposed to be a flash in the. Pan no god and love god and next week you'll get a new message that is the message for the church that is what.

Life in the Church

In the class that says teacher is there any homework this week and somebody like why did you ask we almost got out of. Here's the homework for our time in advent our time in this month leading up to what we're all so excited about children among.

  • Us you're so excited for the presents under the tree parents maybe you're excited like the song says for school to start again whatever.
  • Your excitement is here's the homework we are going to use this season to wait on the lord and be in his presence in.
  • The book of psalms so if you don't have a rhythm with the lord right now this is a great week for you to.
  • Be here psalm 100 is your homework what would happen to your love of god if you spent time to have this heart not.

This passage of scripture this is not a sermon for you and this isn't just a glance at the bible what if this. Was part of your heart's cry to god and I say all of that because I want to share some specific things that I.

Faith and Obedience

Word on the street we can't wait for this year to be over we can't wait for 2021 to arrive as if and if. That's you right now I don't want the sermon to be bad news as if turning december to january on a piece of paper.

  • In your kitchen is going to make everything go away people of god we are not waiting for the calendar to change that's not.
  • What we're waiting for we're not waiting for medical miracles and mandates to change we're not waiting for all the dust to blow over.
  • Advent for us means something very specific the people of god are always waiting for the power of the spirit of god the people.
  • Of god are always waiting for the next wave of the redemption of god the people of god are always waiting for the day.

We're getting closer and closer to the final salvation so as we think about christmas in the advent season we're thinking about a time. Two thousand years ago where the people of god have been waiting faithfully when will the prophecies be fulfilled when will the messiah show.

Faith and Obedience

We say thank you god we trust you in our waiting so let's read psalm 100 and then I want to point out some. Things that I am as a leader of this church pastor of this church and as part of the body that god has made.

  • This church to be we're going to talk about some things that in our waiting we are so thankful for it says in psalm.
  • 100 verse 1 make a joyful shout to the lord all you lands serve the lord with gladness come before his presence with singing.
  • Know that the lord he is god it is he who made us and not we ourselves we are his people and the sheep.
  • Of his pasture enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise be thankful to him and bless his name for.

The lord is good his mercy is everlasting and his truth endures to all generations so we in this psalm this beautiful psalm it. Says to the people of god enter into his gates with thanksgiving in your hearts you want to know god you want to have.

Conclusion

We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.

Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
