Introduction

Let me begin with a discipleship question: how will you follow Jesus in prayer and dependence on God this week?

Main Points

In this lesson shaped by Calvary Boise's teaching on The Essentials of a Thriving Christian Life - Colossians 1:1-6 (08/16/2020), Christ invites us to receive truth with humility, practice repentance, and walk in faithful obedience.

Grace and Justification

Colossians chapter one I'm really excited for this letter uh because it really somehow by god's sovereignty it's an extension of what we were. Talking about last week in colossians chapter one last week we talked about this theme in the end of the book of philippians that.

  • Paul learned how to be content in everything whether he had a lot or whether he had a litter whether his belly was full.
  • Or whether he was hungry he learned this amazing gift of god by god's grace that we are all learning especially in these times.
  • That whatever happens in the world around us whatever possessions we hold in our hands whatever god has given us the grace to experience.
  • Whether we're in a season of blessing or season of waiting there is by the power of god in you this divine ability to.

Trust god with joy and satisfaction in him in every season and that's why paul wrote to this church in philippi I can do. All things whatever it is I can do it through the lord who strengthens me so we looked at that all of last week.

Faith and Obedience

Proverbs chapter 3 verse 5 says this trust in the lord or put your faith in the lord faith and trust are interchangeable what. We're saying when we say faith is one of the vital signs of a healthy believer's life is that you have put your trust.

  • You've given your all to god and the proverb writer says trust in the lord with all of your heart do not lean on.
  • Your own understanding don't lean on your own wisdom don't try to figure things out on your own in other words continually going back.
  • To god in prayer continually referencing the plans of your life by the by the cross uh the cross section of the word and.
  • It says in all of your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths what a beautiful promise that we put our.

Faith in that as we trust in him he makes straight our path and now here's the reward of that trust be not wise. In your eyes fear the lord and turn away from evil and it will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

Conclusion

We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.

Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
