Introduction

Let me begin with a discipleship question: how will you follow Jesus in prayer and dependence on God this week?

Main Points

In this lesson shaped by Calvary Boise's teaching on Filling Up with God's Goodness - Colossians 1:9-11 (08/23/2020), Christ invites us to receive truth with humility, practice repentance, and walk in faithful obedience.

Sin and Salvation

We've been going through the book of colossians starting last week and we're going to build on the message that we preached last week. In colossians chapter one so uh turn there scroll there open your phones apps and um get your bible app open colossians chapter one.

  • If you're already there keep your finger in the bible and I'm already going to have you turn your bible to another passage of.
  • Scripture which I want to share to kind of kick off our time in the word it's psalm chapter 23.
  • Days ago I got the opportunity to go into a home from someone in our church and pray for a family member that is.

Sick and as I was going into that home um you know I felt the burden of I think the year almost that is. That's kind of on our shoulders the challenges of this year the things that we're processing and working through with sickness and health.

Sin and Salvation

This is going to say explicitly what the will of god is for our lives look what it says in first peter chapter 2. Verse 13.

  • Submit yourself to every ordinance of man for the lord's sake whether to the king as supreme or to governors as to.
  • Those who are sent by him to punish evildoers and for the praise of those who do good for this is the will of.
  • God oh no that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men as free yet not using your liberty.
  • As a cloak for vice but as bond servants of god here's the will of god honor all people love the brotherhood fear god.

And honor the king it is the will of god to submit to ordinances and in other words god's not letting anarchy happen in. Our world in every sovereign country there is some government that by god's sovereignty is put into place that anarchy would not rule the.

Walking in Faithful Obedience

You know his will check number one on the sermon you already know his will you approve the things that are excellent being instructed. Of the law you're confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind the light to those who are in darkness an instructor.

  • Of the foolish a teacher of babes having the form of knowledge and truth in the law that sounds incredible it's the sermon applied.
  • You know the will of god you want to teach people you want to instruct people you want to be light in the darkness.
  • And yet you therefore you teach another do you teach yourself you who preach that a man should not steal do you steal you.
  • Who say do not commit adultery do you commit adultery you who ab idols do you rob temples you who make your boast in.

The law do you dishonor god through breaking the law and this is the important part for the name of god is blasphemed among. The gentiles because of you so what paul is saying is man the nation of israel is god's glory on earth a light to.

Faith and Obedience

Husbands love your wives do not be bitter toward them children obey your parents in all things for this is well pleasing to the. Lord fathers do not provoke your children lest they become discouraged bond servants others translations slaves we'll get to that in colossians 3.

  • In all things your masters according to the flesh not with eye service as man pleasers but in the sincerity of heart fearing god.
  • Remember this list that we're going through this morning is building on itself understand the will of god paul is describing all of these.
  • Things for the roles and the titles that god has given you as husbands and wives and children and bond servants says this is.

How you do it and this is why you do it and wherever you do it heartedly as to the lord and not to. Men knowing that from the lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance for you serve the lord but he who does wrong.

Conclusion

We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.

Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
