Introduction

Let me begin with a discipleship question: will we trust and obey Jesus in the real decisions of everyday life? Christ forms us through truth received, repentance practiced, and obedience lived out.

Main Points

Prayer and Dependence

ah oh we all know being sick is no fun but it's so much better when you have somebody to take care of you hey everybody welcome to our new series challenge accepted we're going to talk about some of the amazing challenges that jesus faced on our behalf as well as some challenges that we can face because of jesus now today before our lesson let's make sure we pray prayer is us talking to god we know that you have the power to heal and today we just pray for those who are sick we pray that you would heal their bodies in jesus name amen thanks for praying everybody now it's time to open up our bibles today we're going to be in the book of mark what do you think is mark in the new testament or the old testament new testament very good it's one of our four gospels awesome which means good news and it's good news that's all about jesus yes the gospel is giving us the good news about jesus today will be in chapter one and we're going to hear a story about a time that jesus showed care for peter's mother-in-law and it'll also remind us that jesus cares for us this is what it says in mark chapter 1 starting in verse 29 after jesus left the synagogue with james and john they went to simon who's also called peter and andrew's home now simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever they told jesus about her right away so he went to her bedside took her by the hand and helped her sit up then the fever left her and she prepared a meal for them this story of jesus performing this healing miracle gives me an idea for a game time i'm calling this one fix the booboo what you're going to need to do is go find an animal a pet something like that and with your parents permission some toilet paper grab a pet maybe your little brother or an actual pet like your dog or cat and then come back with your materials alright here's how the game is going to work we are going to give you 30 seconds to wrap up your friend that you brought with you with the toilet paper to bandage them up we're going to fix all that boo-boos the owies the hurts and pains that your friend is experiencing just to show that we care for them so here's your 30 second timer go for it do i hope you guys did a good job taking care of your sick friend and you know i think now more than ever we should be thinking about those who are hurting those who are sick those who are scared or worried whatever it is and we want to show them care but because part of what the story that we just read reminds me of is that jesus cares for us jesus showed simon peter's mother-in-law great love and compassion by healing her sickness and making her well and in the same way we know that jesus cares about us and if we are sick and somebody comes and shows us love and takes care of us and gives us medicine or a blanket or just kind words whatever it is that's a way that god's showing his love to us and so we should thank god for that but we also want to be people who look for those same opportunities to go out and show god's love the care of jesus to those who are in need so make sure you have eyes to see those around you who could use a little bit of care and go share the love of god that's it for me this time i'll see you guys later you ah oh we all know being sick is no fun but it's so much better when you have somebody to take care of you hey everybody welcome to our new Conclusion

We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.

Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
