Introduction
Let me begin with a discipleship question: will we trust and obey Jesus in the real decisions of everyday life? Christ forms us through truth received, repentance practiced, and obedience lived out.
Main Points
Grace and Justification
ah you'll never get me treasure oh it's empty i guess i'll have to find a new trend all right hey everybody we're in our series unboxed where we've been talking about and discovering some of the gifts of god before our lesson though let's pray god today we ask that you would help us to care about the things that you care about most and we ask this in jesus name amen thanks for praying guys now it's time to open up those bibles to the book of matthew in chapter six what do you think is that in the new testament or the old testament new testament that's right it's one of the four gospels all about the life of who jesus yes the good news about jesus and in matthew chapter 6 we get to hear some of the words of jesus as he talks about different kinds of treasure this is what it says in matthew chapter 6 starting in verse 19. don't store up treasures here on earth where moths eat them and rust destroys them and where thieves break in and steal store your treasures in heaven where moths and rust cannot destroy and thieves do not break in and steal wherever your treasure is there the desires of your heart will also be as we talk about treasure it gives me an idea for a game time i'm calling this one treasure sorting what you need to do is go find a big bag of change coins or something like that something that you can grab a couple handfuls of and we're gonna give you 30 seconds to sort them out into like piles so pennies with pennies quarters with quarters that sort of thing now if you don't have change that's okay you could also use cereal dried beans colored beads m's whatever you want that you're going to be able to sort out so go ahead pause now and grab your materials all right you've got 30 seconds to go ahead and sort your treasure into those different piles are you ready on your mark get set go so all right how'd you guys do hopefully you were able to get lots of treasure sorted out into different kinds that are worth different amounts and that reminds me of what jesus said in matthew chapter six it seems like there are different kinds of treasure in the world and one kind is better than the other kind so what kind of treasure is jesus talking about here he says there's one kind of treasure that can be lost and stolen and broken and there's another kind of treasure that can't the treasure that jesus is talking about is when our hearts care about what god cares about he says your treasure is what your heart cares about most and so if our treasure is the stuff that can be lost and broken and stolen well then that's not lining up our hearts desire with what god cares about so what does god care about if we look in the bible we see that the thing that god cares most about in this world is people it's us it's you and it's me it's the people of the world god cares about people and we should care about what god cares about so instead of putting all of our energy into getting as much stuff as we can for ourselves that we can hold on to before it gets lost and broken and stolen instead we should pour our energy into caring about what god cares about which is people so we should care about people and care for people by showing them the love of god that's what jesus is getting at in matthew chapter six our hearts should seek to show god's love to the world so this week spend some time thinking about how you can focus less on the stuff and more on people how can you show god's love to people this week that's your challenge that's it for me this time god bless you guys i'll see you later you
Conclusion
We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.
Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
