Introduction

Let me begin with a discipleship question: how will you follow Jesus in prayer and dependence on God this week?

Main Points

In this lesson shaped by Calvary Boise's teaching on KIDS TIME: Q & R - September 16, 2020, Christ invites us to receive truth with humility, practice repentance, and walk in faithful obedience.

Family Discipleship

Do not eat what's the worst that could happen nothing bad's ever come from eating a piece of fruit right welcome back to our. Q r series where we've been taking your family's questions about anything and everything and doing our best to respond and grow together so.

  • Each time you hear a question you're gonna have a chance to discuss it at home and then come back and hear my response.
  • You guys ready let's do it today's question comes to us from krista and she wants to know why did god put the tree.
  • Of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden of eden you might not know what I'm talking about so let me read.
  • A little bit from the book of genesis to get us all on the same page genesis chapter 2 verse 15 says the lord.

God took the man and put him in the garden of eden to work it and keep it and the lord god commanded the. Man saying you may surely eat of every tree of the garden but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you.

Sin and Salvation

Home and then come back all right so in paintings and pictures and shows and video games every time I see the tree of. The knowledge of good and evil represented it's always an apple did any of you guys say apple I don't think it was an.

  • Apple this is one of those things where the bible doesn't actually tell us what kind of fruit so we can make our best.
  • Guess and honestly I don't think it matters all that much if it's a fruit that still exists today my guess is that it's.
  • Definitely not an apple it's a nectarine because those are clearly the best fruit that exists today but maybe it wasn't a nectarine either.
  • Maybe it was a fruit that only existed on that tree the tree of the knowledge of good and evil guess we'll never know.

But since we're talking about fruit and fruit trees that gives me an idea for a game time let's play fruit extravaganza you're gonna. Have 10 seconds to name as many fruits as you can so you'll find the timer up name as many fruits as you can.

Faith and Obedience

The why we just know that it says that god put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden that. It was there and that they weren't supposed to eat from it but I'll do my best to give a response based off my.

  • Opinion and what I've seen in the bible and what I've heard from others and I think might be wise so god created humanity.
  • With a purpose and he showed that he really cared that he loved adam and eve and he wanted them to partner with him.
  • In order to take care of the creation that he had made and I think god's desire to have a true loving relationship with.
  • Humanity was the reason why god gave them an opportunity to disobey by putting the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in.

The garden and telling them not to eat from it god gave adam and eve a choice a choice were they going to choose. To love god by obeying him and trusting him or would they choose to reject god's love and disobey god and choose what was.

Sin and Salvation

There are lots of things that we can do and a lot of them are good one thing that we can do for ourselves. And our own understanding is if we're stuck on something or confused about something or disagree with somebody about something we just keep on.

  • Reading and studying the bible knowing that the more we read the more we grow the more we'll understand certain pieces of the bible.
  • Or parts or words or passages that might be confusing to us or might be causing us to disagree with somebody so keep on.
  • Reading and studying the bible now we can also ask others I would say find other people who love god and are studying the.
  • Bible and have a conversation that's part of why we're doing what we're doing right now is really helpful to talk to others about.

What they're understanding from the bible and what they know and get wisdom from other people something else that we should always be doing. As we're reading the bible is to pray we pray and we ask god's holy spirit in us to give us greater understanding of.

Conclusion

We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.

Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
