Introduction

Let me begin with a discipleship question: will we trust and obey Jesus in the real decisions of everyday life? Christ forms us through truth received, repentance practiced, and obedience lived out.

Main Points

Grace and Justification

hey everybody what am i doing well i heard that god's word can be like a lamp in our lives so time to put that to the test just screw that on there i must be doing something wrong oh well welcome back everybody to our series sing where we have been learning about god and about ourselves through the psalms in the bible before our lesson though let's pray god thank you for the gift of your word we pray that we would learn it and understand it and obey it and live it out in our lives so we pray this in jesus name amen thanks for praying now open up those bibles to the book of psalms which is in the new testament or the old testament old testament that's right we're going to be in psalm 119 today which is all about god's word and you know we can be confident as we follow god because he leads us through his word now remember a psalm is like a song or poem used to worship god and psalm 119 is a very long poem all about god's word let's get a little bit of a picture for that as we read starting in verse 101 i hold back my feet from every evil way in order to keep your word i do not turn aside from your rules for they have taught me how sweet are your words to my taste sweeter than honey to my mouth through your precepts i get understanding therefore i hate every false way your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path the psalmist which is what we call somebody who writes a psalm goes over 176 lines of poetry that are all about god's word each one of the lines mentions god's word in some way or another and that gives me an idea for a game time i'm calling this one synonym search now a synonym is a word that basically means the same as another word and so what i'm going to do is give you guys a section of psalm 119 and it'll be your job to see how many synonyms you can find that are used for god's word so find other words that mean god's word something like commands might be an example so i'll put up the verse for you to look at get a grown up if you need some help reading it and try your best some of these words we might not use all the time but remember we're looking for synonyms for god's word go for it how did you guys do here's what i came up with we had word commandments statutes rules testimonies precepts ways it goes on that's what i got from that section but if we looked at the whole psalm 118 we'd find even more synonyms for god's word clearly the guy who wrote this loves god's word remember verse 103 said how sweet are your words to my taste sweeter than honey to my mouth remember this is poetry he's not talking about ripping pages out of the bible and chewing on them he is saying that god's word is good they are a blessing to our lives psalm 119 verse 105 says your word is a lamp to my feet and a light my path that's one of my favorites it's saying that god's word shows us where to go in life it leads us and guides us and as we follow after god we have confidence because we have his word to help us if you want to be a person who receives the blessings and experiences the blessings talked about in psalm 119 in relationship with god's word then you should be a person who reads god's word hears god's word listens to god's word talks about god's word thinks about god's word meditates on god's word basically you gotta spend time with god's word now if you don't already have regular times where you yourself personally and maybe together with your family or with a group of other brothers and sisters in christ if you don't already have time where you're in god's word each week i would highly suggest and recommend that you make those times in your week to do that whether it's time together that we're doing right now but beyond that maybe time in the morning when you first wake up or time right before you go to bed or maybe at lunch time whatever is a good time for you to take in god's word and begin to think about it and let it shape your mind and your heart but it's got to go one step further than that we don't want to just know god's word and understand god's word we want to act on god's word and live it out the bible says that we should be doers of the word so as you learn as you grow as you understand more of god's word don't just let it shape you on the inside let it move you into action and change what you do on a day-to-day basis all right my friends that is going to be it for this week go out learn god's word and obey it hope you have a great one i'll see you next time god bless you okay this song is called lord i lift your name on high so be sure to be dancing be sure to be moving around and doing the hand motions with us as you sing all right here we go foreign i'm so glad you came here we go is yes all right great job that was awesome all right this song is called praise you the lord and you can pick apart if you want you can sing just the hallelujahs or just the crazy lords but make sure you're singing no matter what all right here we go all right praise the lord one more time is all right good job you hey everybody what am i doing well i heard that god's word can be like a lamp in our lives so time to put that to the test just screw Conclusion

We return to the opening teaching: discipleship is not just information, it is transformation through faith and obedience to Jesus. If we receive His Word and walk it out, He will shape us into people who endure and bear fruit.

Lord Jesus, help me hear Your Word, obey it with faith, and grow as Your disciple. Amen.
