Introduction

In the beginning of my journey, I recall a childhood steeped in the chaos of my father's alcoholism, where my siblings and I often huddled together for safety amidst the tumult. It was during this tumultuous time that I first encountered the church, where, at the age of five, I accepted Jesus into my heart. However, my teenage years were marked by turbulence as I left home at thirteen, transitioning from a runaway to an emancipated minor at fourteen. This was a pivotal time that led me down a dark path filled with drugs and eventual despair, particularly with my battle against methamphetamine. Although I knew of the Lord, my life spiraled, leading to a critical moment when the police threatened to take my children due to my addiction. This precipitated a return to God, a decision reaffirmed at a rally where I met Pastor Bob, leading to a significant transformation in my life.

Main Points

Life During My Childhood Was Defined

Life during my childhood was defined by instability and fear due to my father's violence and substance abuse. Such an environment shaped my early life experiences.

  • I vividly remember huddling with my siblings, listening to the sounds of chaos.
  • This backdrop led me to a church, and though I accepted Jesus at a young age, the challenges at home and subsequent choices took me further away from that commitment.
  • My early formative years were a mix of innocence tainted by trauma, illustrating how life circumstances can severely impact our walk with the Lord.
  • As I grew older, my quest for acceptance and a sense of belonging caused me to run away from home, which only deepened my struggles.

By My Mid-Teens I Was Hitchhiking

By my mid-teens, I was hitchhiking across the country, seeking fulfillment through temporary means. However, the fleeting pleasures of drugs, particularly methamphetamine, soon enveloped me in despair.

  • What began as fun morphed into paranoia and anger, ultimately culminating in a crisis when a shooting occurred at my house.
  • It starkly illustrated the grip that addiction had on my life and how it endangered not only my health but my children's well-being.
  • In the depths of my addiction, I reached a breaking point that led to my divine intervention.
  • When I met Pastor Bob at the anti-drug rally, I was desperate and transparent about my struggles.

His Unconditional Invitation For My Children

His unconditional invitation for my children and me to live with him was a radical act of generosity that highlighted the love of Christ through community. This provided me a reflection of how the body of Christ is called to support one another in times of need and how God can use others to guide us back to Him. The journey towards recovery and wholeness wasn’t easy, as I battled the remnants of my addiction and the mental struggles that came with it. A doctor warned me I was at a late stage of my addiction, facing potentially grave consequences. Yet, this prompted my commitment to return to God in earnest. It became apparent that choosing to follow God would also necessitate making better choices that would ward off spiritual attacks.

Gradually Through Consistent Prayer And Surrender

Gradually, through consistent prayer and surrender, I saw the Lord restore my mind and heart, leading me step by step back into a relationship with Him. Restoration in Christ propelled me towards an academic journey that led me to earn my master's degree in social work. Achieving my clinical license marked a profound turn in my life, showcasing how redemption leads to fulfilling God's calling on our lives. My experiences, having once been mired in despair, now serve as a platform for helping others, both in a hospital and through private counseling. My journey reflects Psalm 107:2, declaring that the redeemed of the Lord should say so in acknowledgment of His deliverance and faithfulness. The essence of my journey illustrates the profound truth of God's grace and the importance of hope.

Amidst All The Trials I Learned

Amidst all the trials, I learned to give God permission to work in His timing, leading me through a process of healing. My relationship with God transformed from a mere acknowledgment in childhood to an active, vibrant faith that drives my life purpose. Today, I am not only a testament to His power but a vessel through which His love and healing can touch others.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my life's journey, marked by chaos, trauma, addiction, and ultimately healing, reminds us that no one is beyond God's reach. It emphasizes the transformative power of community, the necessity of making deliberate choices to return to God, and the hope that springs forth from healing and restoration. My testimony serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging others who find themselves in despair to say so and share how God has worked in their lives. Just as Psalm 107 reminds us, we are called to proclaim the goodness of the Lord for the redemption and deliverance He provides.
