Introduction

In our current climate, many of us are looking for hope in various places, especially following significant political events that have stirred excitement and optimism. However, it is imperative to understand that our true hope is not anchored in earthly leaders but in Jesus Christ alone. As we gather tonight, I want to emphasize that while we ought to be diligent in prayer for our leaders and our nation, we must focus our expectations and trust in the unwavering authority of God and His plan for our lives. We will delve into 1 Samuel chapter 3, examining how God calls Samuel amidst a culture that seems to lack His presence. This narrative illustrates not only the importance of listening to God's voice but also the necessity of raising up the next generation to know and love the Lord.

Main Points

We Will Delve Into 1 Samuel

We will delve into 1 Samuel chapter 3, examining how God calls Samuel amidst a culture that seems to lack His presence. This narrative illustrates not only the importance of listening to God's voice but also the necessity of raising up the next generation to know and love the Lord.

  • In Scripture, the role of parents is clear, it is our responsibility to raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
  • The reality is that we cannot passively assume that our children will find their own way to salvation.
  • Instead, we must engage in their spiritual formation.
  • Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to "train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." With a culture that often promotes permissive parenting, we.

Their Natural Tendencies Lean Towards Selfishness

Their natural tendencies lean towards selfishness due to our inherited sinful nature, as illustrated even in a simple scenario with young children fighting over toys. We must train them in love and teach them right from wrong, creating a foundation for their future lives.

  • In 1 Samuel 3, we witness God calling a young Samuel.
  • This account serves as a profound reminder that no one is too young or too insignificant to receive God's call.
  • Samuel was a boy, yet he was chosen by God to deliver a message that would impact Israel significantly.
  • Our willingness to listen to God is crucial, and just as Eli recognized God's voice, we too must discern His call.

God Often Speaks In Various Ways

God often speaks in various ways; we must be attentive and responsive with the humility of Samuel, who says, "Speak, for your servant hears." This posture of receptivity is what God desires from each of us, regardless of our age or expertise in faith. Eli, the high priest, offers a sobering example of the consequences of failing to correct sin within our families and communities. God had judgment in store for Eli and his sons due to their disobedience, yet Eli does not demonstrate true repentance. Instead, he resigns to accepting God's will without seeking personal transformation. This absence of action reminds us that mere acknowledgment of judgment without repentance can lead to devastating consequences. As we lead others, it is essential to confront sin lovingly, not allowing our fears or comfort to shield us from the truth that must be shared.

God Tests His People Not To

God tests His people, not to tempt us into failure, but to deepen our dependence on Him and refine our character. How we respond to these tests shapes our spiritual maturity. Trials can often feel repetitive, as the Israelites experienced, but the aim is for us to learn lessons that draw us closer to God. James 1:2-4 offers insight into this process, encouraging us to consider it pure joy when we face trials, knowing that they produce steadfastness and complete us. Each challenge we face is an opportunity for growth, pushing us toward maturity in Christ. We stand in a time that calls for revival, one where many in our society have not only strayed from faith but are unaware of their dire need for repentance.

An Awakening Brings The Lost To

An awakening brings the lost to Christ in large numbers, illuminating the dire state of many who are spiritually lost. As followers of Christ, we must desire and pray for such a movement, recognizing that salvation comes through Jesus alone. Our role is to be vessels of His truth, reaching out to those who are spiritually cold and guiding them towards the warmth of faith. The discipline of the Lord should not be viewed as punitive but as formative. Hebrews 12:6 explains that God disciplines those He loves. This chastening is ultimately for our growth, teaching us holiness and righteousness.

It May Not Feel Good In

It may not feel good in the moment, yet we must understand that this is part of our Fatherly relationship with God. He desires our best, and as we face challenges, may we view them through the lens of growth, learning from our mistakes, and maturing in faith. In all that we do, we must seek to glorify God. Whether we are basking in His blessings or enduring trials, our response should consistently direct glory back to Him. Understandably, it can be easy to feel prideful when we experience success, particularly in ministry or personal achievements. Yet, we must constantly remind ourselves that it is not our efforts that bring about success; it is God's grace and intervention.

Being Mindful Of This Allows Us

Being mindful of this allows us to serve humbly and keeps us aligned with God’s purpose in our lives.

Conclusion

As we reflect on 1 Samuel 3 and its implications for our lives, let us walk away with the profound realization of our responsibility as both parents and members of the body of Christ. It is our duty to cultivate the next generation, to remain attentive to God’s voice, and to seek personal growth through discipline. May we embrace the sovereignty of God in our lives and look expectantly to the work He is doing, both within us and through us, to bring about a great awakening in our world. Let us commit to grounding our hope solely in Jesus Christ, recognizing our identity in Him as we navigate the complexities of life.
